Agricultural matrix

The input data is a shapefile containing agricultural parcels as polygons, having as attribute a unique plot identifier. We use the French RPG (Registre Parcellaire Graphique), generated by farmers for CAP submission, to create the shapefile to represent actual agricultural landscapes.

The cultivated area of a cell is the sum of parcel polygons areas overlapping the cell. A cell is associated to the parcel which overlapping area is highest.

The edge density of a cell is the sum of length of interfaces between parcels and between parcel and non-cultivated areas, with a resolution of 4m.

Semi-natural habitats

A shapefile as input file define the polygons of semi-natural habitats, classified either “woody” or “grassy”. We used the IGN BD TOPO\(^\circledR~\) data.

Local aphids

Aphids overwinter in the landscape, usually on rapeseed. The number of aphids wintering in the beginning of the simulation is an input parameter, and aphids are evenly distributed per area unit over their host crops currently in the landscape (ie. rapeseed).

Input data

Daily temperatures

The model runs with daily mean temperatures.

Crop pattern dynamics

Crop successions are imported with a csv file, the parcel identifier permitting to link the crop succession to the corresponding parcel. The csv file crop_data.csv contains information about the different crops that are a resource either for the pest or its natural enemies.

Aphid colonization

Timing and abundance of aphid colonization events where predicted using Luquet et al. model 1. Daily colonization (SimBAL input) was computed as a gaussian from the output variables (date of fifth capture, total abundance of flying aphids and flight duration).
